KESOs are not well equipped to link students to the relevant health or support service. School nurses are responsible for referring students to services. However, as Aboriginal students are unique with the issues involving their health, school nurses lack the knowledge, resources, and connections to link them to the appropriate services. Consequently, these children and youths fall behind school, disengage from school and are unable to successfully complete their education. Families of the students are also at a loss on what action to take and do not know where to seek guidance and help. This program will seek to address this gap.
