William J Martin

Dr Willy-John Martin (Iwi: Ngati Wai, Ngati Tamatera). Dr Martin is a biomedical researcher and Postdoctoral Fellow at the Inflammation Division at Walter and Eliza Hall Institute of Medical Research. His work uses cutting edge biomedical tools to understand conditions that are of a high-priority to Indigenous peoples. This has included work on acute gout in NZ Māori, the anti-inflammatory properties of traditional Māori medicines, and his work now encompasses the search for new diagnostic and therapeutic avenues for treating acute rheumatic fever in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
